Te Ngākau
Civic Precinct
In progress
Te Ngākau Civic Precinct is the civic and cultural heart of the city, and the gateway to the waterfront. Many buildings in the precinct were damaged during the 2013 and 2016 earthquakes, which means that a lot of strengthening and redevelopment work is necessary. With projects like Te Whare Whakarauika Wellington Town Hall and Te Matapihi Central Library underway, we're rebuilding Te Ngākau to ensure it is safe, well-designed, vibrant and fulfils its potential as the heart of our growing city. The Te Ngākau Precinct Development plan will guide the remaining development in the precinct. Public consultation on the draft development plan took place from 21 October to 13 November 2024.
