Te Ngākau
Civic Precinct

In progress

Te Ngākau Civic Precinct is the civic and cultural heart of the city, and the gateway to the waterfront. Many buildings in the precinct were damaged during the 2013 and 2016 earthquakes, which means that a lot of strengthening, and redevelopment work is necessary. With projects like the Town Hall and Te Matapihi Central Library underway, we’re are rebuilding Te Ngākau to ensure it is safe, well-designed, vibrant and fulfils its potential as the heart of our growing city. The upcoming Te Ngākau Precinct Development plan will bring to life the wider vision for the precinct, with a draft due in June 2024.
